His Harmonies Music

Music has always been a significant part of my life.  I grew up in a pastor's home, with musical parents who introduced music probably before I was born!  They also recognized early my bent toward music, and invested in lessons and experiences that have shaped me to this day.

I've spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, growing up primarily in Wenatchee and Bellingham, Washington.  After graduating from college in 1990, I began to explore my options in music ministry until I met my beautiful wife, Carrie, and we were married in 1994.

I supported her as she finished nursing school at Seattle Pacific University, and then she supported me through a 2 year Masters in Church Music program through Western Seminary in Portland, OR.  In 1998, we began our career in music ministry and  were off to Central Illinois for 4 years, where our first 2 children, Katie Beth and Mason, were born.  We returned home to Washington to another ministry assignment in Olympia in 2002, where our daughter Lyndee was born in 2003.

Around 2005 or 2006, the concept for and name, His Harmonies Music was born.  As a musician, I of course love and appreciate harmony; both hearing it and creating it.  This is also true in relationships.  I do not function well at all if I know that I am 'out of harmony' in either my relationship with God or others.  I have an urge to 'resolve the dissonance' to restore the 'restful harmony'.  This has also been where the battle lines have been drawn in my mind for most of my life, and why I believe with all my heart that I am called to the development of this work.  Philippians 4:8-9 from THE MESSAGE paraphrase of the Bible says:

     "Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, complelling, gracious--the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.  Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized.  DO THAT, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into HIS most excellent HARMONIES.

So, His Harmonies Music seeks to connect the enjoyment of musical harmony and the aspirational desires expressed in Philippians 4:8-9 in a way that glorifies God and brings great encouragement to others.  That has been my hope, dream and prayer that has been germinating for several decades.

We have lived in Deer Park, WA since 2014 and we are very active in our local church and community,   I hope to be able to teach and mentor more students in the area of music theory and playing piano by ear, as well as produce more recording projects.  

On we go, knowing that our God is always 'One Step Ahead' of us.
